Yes Ken, the CBX is prone to premature camchain wear. You can search the archives. No 'fix' for it other that to replace when it starts to make itself known.
The recommeded replacement chain is endless requiring the cases to be split. A big job. I have heard of others using a masterlink type but I myself am wary of it.

I have a 1983 CBX 550 with 33,000 kilometers on it. I have heard that these bikes have a cam chain problem. Is this true? If so, is there a fix to overcome the problem?
Cheers from Canada

Hi folks,
I was visiting to US in 2 weeks and I wonder people who likes do stupid ad posting use this bbs. Whmm.
So I change policy of this board. Posting article will be buffered to me and after I inspect it, the article adds to here. Yes, 2 steps posting is. (We, IT people calls it as "moderating".)
I really hate SPAMmers but I really loves you, honest CBX folks. So I don't want to close this.
Please be patient for this inconvenience.
Yasu.

Hi Henry.
just spent all day saturday putting new forks seals in, and as always i have made all the mistakes possible, so next time should be a breeze. you are definitely a cbx fan. you should have no bother putting the bike back together, hopefully with nothing left over in the boxes or bags. thanks for the advice, there is just under 9000 km on the clock so an oil and filter change is next on my list of things to try. best of luck with the assembly and let me know how you are getting on.

Hi Randy,
Yes I'm sorry to say that I did buy it in boxes and holdall and carrier bags. But it did come with a new set of white wall tyres, recovered seat and good looking original paint. The main down side was an engine that was stripped because of No 3 big end gone. From my research this is a common problem with these engines so use a good oil and change oil and filter every 4500km (3000 mls)and every other change use a good engine flush.I am hoping to get started on the engine after xmas and have it ready to show in the summer. Being a seasoned (old) biker I have also got a CBX 550F and a CBX 750 FE, well I've done enough typing to last me weeks so I'll wait to her from you sometime soon
ps feel free to email me direct Henry

Thanks Mike for your advice ,
after serching on the web I bought for $ 8.00 on ebay a brand new electrical switch from a Honda Goldwing 1977 , the part that goes on the bottom of the ignition switch . Will fit right in the barrel of the CBX550 ignition switch with a simple modification for the wiring connector . Crazy Honda reseller's were asking $250. for a complete switch.

I posted this question before, but it is worth asking again.
Does anyone know of aftermarket oversized piston and rings for the CBX550?
Alternatively does the piston cross reference to another Honda model?

Ben,
I used an ignition from a 1986 Honda VF 1000 which has never given me a problem on my '83 cbx550.
Hope it helps,

Hi,
You can use Google with a few keywords simply, as follows;
CBX400/550 Message Board cylinder
And for more explicitly limited search, you can add the directive to limit the target site to my webhost as follows;
CBX400/550 Message Board cylinder site:bakkers.gr.jp
I hope it does make sence for your issue.
Yasu.

Dear friends & Ovners of the "small CBX"
My CBX 550 F2 has a startermotor problem.... and perhaps some of You out there has solved this yourselfe and could give me a hint what I should be looking for, now when I bring out my tools. It寄 nice to see that so many CBX owners care for their bike寄 and perhaps some of You have an idea where I can find information on if anybody has been racing the CBX 550 in the past or nowadays in some vintage class. Hoping for some respons best regards CAFD
