I have two 1983 bikes. One has 14,669 KM's. The other has 5,316 KM.
They have been sitting for a couple of years. But the body's are excellent. The exhaust pipes have a small rust whole in the pipes.
Please let me know if you would like to buy one or both. I can send you photo's if you would like.
Dave

It was five hundred pounds I tried to say that I am after for the CBX.
...........and the new (old) RT BMW really does have poor brakes. Three stainless discs in my case.
There is an aftermarket conversion to cast iron so I am not the only one who thinks so.

Hi Charles
The digit gremlin got to your post mate. if you want to include digits in the board, can you spell them out. Always happens. let us know if it was five, six or seven hundred pounds.
Are you getting the old-no pun intended-100RT? If so the comments about the brakes seem a bit odd. Never remember the old boxers being poor on brakes. I always thought the RT was a bit of a barge, the RS was always the fun one.
But then again your right about the fairing, sounds like you need some weather protection on your daily ride to the knackers yard....

P.S. If it makes you feel any happier, i am only in my forties, but my knees feel like their in their eighties...

No - that was not mine on ebay!
I did not see it and now its gone - did anyone see how much it went for?
I'm after 00 (ish)for mine.
Amazing coincidence though - there can't be that many CBXs in Loughborough - and all with faulty fuel guages!
I think its still in the garage - hang on I'd better have a look!
Yes, its still there
I agree about the delights of riding the CBX - the gearbox is spot on and you can roll the twist grip between first finger and thumb whilst braking with one finger and the engine is like a little turbine - the new BMW is like a tractor by comparison and the brakes are dangerously ineffective - but I do like that fairing and I'm hoping it will cure my neuralgia and rhinitis and schiatica ( if that's how you spell any of them!)It's not much fun getting old but the alternative isn't very attractive either - is it?

Hi Charles
I assume that its yours thats up on ebay. If not, go and check the garage cos yours may have gone....
It looks a cracker. You should hang on to it and show it.
And looking at the list of work carried out, you wont get your money back. Unless your in the trade?
And what has 60 got to do with it? Age is a state of mind, not a number. You will regret selling it come next summer.
And besides its a lot more fun than a Renault 19RT.
Oh! did you mean a BMW RT? Yawn...wheres me pipe and slippers...only joking!!

Engine removal is no easy task. The engine can be removed as a unit but it is a tight fit. I have performed it several times and can offer only the following to simplify it.
All the obvious stuff required removal; seat, tank, exhaust, carbs, oil cooler and lines, oil filter, chain and drive sprocket, shifter lever, rear brake lever, coils and leads, control cables, wire connections.
To protect the paint on the frame from chips, wrap tape or strips of cloth around the frame surrounding the engine. If the frame is not protected you will end up damaging the finish.
Support the bike securely. Use the center stand and then tie the bike down so that it cannot tip sideways.
To get a little more clearance, remove the valve cover. To keep dirt out of the engine cover with a rag. You can also remove the exhaust studs if they are not seized to get a little more clearance but not necessary.
Use a jack and a block of wood under the oil pan and support the engine weight. Remove the engine mounting bolts.
Caution, the bare engine is heavy (I think around 150 lbs). With all the bolts removed the wrestling can begin.
The engine will come out easily by tipping it back slightly, lifting it up, then tipping it out to the right. I have done it myself but make sure you eat one or two power bars first. If you do not get the tipping and tilting right it is a bear.
Installation is just the reverse.
Good luck

Oh dear seems like some of us regulars have been ignoring the board for a bit.....here goes......
Xavier. On the F2, you have to remove the adjuster knob first, this is held in place by a grub screw i think. Then remove the nut that is located in the adjuster shaft. Then to the right of the adjuster is a domed nut, remove this and you should now be able to remove the headlamp.
Next.....
Michael. Sounds like you have done the usual newbie trick of posting a message without reading the old stuff...yeah i know its a drag, but it saves us repeating things..etc,etc,etc.

Hi just dropping a quick message to say I've sold my Green Bike. ( pictures are still available at www.minimini.co.uk for a while )
I've still got a NEW Motad Neta full system for sale ( seen at www.miniturbo.net )
I'm finally getting around to sorting ( stripping down ) my red cbx550f !!!!!
I'll be building a CBX550F website as I go along and will take lots of photo's of the strip and rebuild... taking notes as I go... any problems encountered will have photo's and remedies noted and photographed.
I've decided not to go for 100% original as supension etc.. has moved on since 21 years ago... so I'll be fitting updated parts. I've already fitted a new monoshock coilover unit ( showa ) with preload adjustment, and raised the bike slightly ( to accomodate my long legs... and to improve the bikes turn-in )
The rear SAG is set at 30mm, and the front 30mm ( measured at 14psi )
I'll let you know how I get on! and post a new website address once I'm properly underway and have a decent ammount of photo's etc..
