Rob
how are you getting on with the avons ? I was expecting legal action from Avon after my negative comments ! I'm currently running a 90/90 front and 110/90 rear, some obscure Malasian rubber (still saving for the metzelers) which are great in the dry but questionable in the wet to say the least !

hi Linton,
the haynes manual shows the following sizes.
Front: 3.60H18
Rear: 4.10H18
check further back in the posts, there might be more info/recommendations. I have Avons on at the moment, but in an earlier post about front tyres it was suggested that metzlers may be a better choice. anyone else care to comment on their choice?

hi john,
you could try one of the places in the back of MCN/other bike mags that offer cam chain replacement services.or, dont want to sound like an advert for them, but as i seem to keep w**king on about them..... if you aint bought a replacement camchain yet, take a look at the M&P catalogue. they list one for the 550. they ask that you state if you want a split or endless chain. anyone out there got any experience with either method?
And any chance that you can let me know what bits you have for sale.
Let me know if you want an e-mail address for a list, and some idea of what you want for the bits.

Has anyone changed the Cam Chain yet?
I need some help!
How do I get the chain to go round the crank, do I wind it round with a spanner on the crank?
Simon.
PS. Loads of spares for CBX550.

go for it Bartek!
it might be more complicated than a jawa but the basic principals should be the same. And as you say, if you cant afford to get it repaired at a dealer, then what choice do you have?

Hi.
Thanks a lot for your advise. I'm really glad that it is a message bord like here when i can find good and helpfull people.
I have troubles with my ?clutch?. I have to repeair it but the repair in a workshop is very expensive for me , so i want to do it by myself, do you think that it can be done. I have never repered japan motor. I had a JAWA motorcycle and i could repair in it everything without any help. I think that japan motor isn't much more complicated than czech 2 stroke enengine.
What do you think??
Thank you.

Recently I resolved (easly) a problem of firing.
Description of the probleme: by starting cold the motor made big "BANGS" and flammes at the exhaust pipe (quite a foot of flammes came out !!!).
Cause: two of the plug didn't give a spark.
check the HT coils (by swapping) = OK
check the pulser coil (approx 110 ohms)= OK
It seemed to be the electronics that was in default...
The spark unit is the black box under the seat and it secured on the left side of the frame by a big bolt. That box is closed by 4 screws into the plastic box.
Fortunatly the electronic printed circuit (PCB for the experts) is not molded into epoxy or other liquid resins so the board is accessible.
After rubbing the board with a cotton swab and soldering compound ( that helps for old soldering or for oxydated solder) I used a solder for electronics ( but it must be at least 60 watts) to refresh ALL the solders.
And what happened ?
IT WORKED, 4 smart sparks came again out of the plugs.
Now the start and idle run seems better.

Oh... It worked well... Why when I typed 1,1 and 7 it shows correctly but Joe/Rob case was not. Probably some other character (not from 0 to 9) is exists before numbers.
Please let me know if someone can estimate the reason why...
Yasu.

Bargain john! this message board must have problems with numbers over a hundred!
and if anyone is interested the VJMC rally in kettering is only open to invited guests and members!! thats according to a bit in Classic Mechanics this month...bastards!
if anyone wants to go, i suggest you park up in London Rd, and walk in via the lane to the side of the rugby club!
I will try to find out if this is true and let you all know.

check out Carol Nash, I got mine thru them, 50ish fully comp, with a breakdown/recovery service as well. I think its a positive bargain. Agreed value if you want as well.
aint looked at the small print to see if theres a milage limit, but who cares!! they regard the bike as a "classic" so hence the low cost. no doubt someone will come up with a cheaper quote if you shop round, but for a 39 year old who has been away from bikes for a few years, i thought it was good. I pay about twice this for a car that performs about the same!
by the way john, after all that i'll give you 50 quid for the bikes if you still decide to sell..........I had to ask!!!!
