Hi. I have finally got my bike running again but am still having trouble getting it started when it is hot.
I have just replaced all the valve seals and the rings
because it had very low compression and I was told that this is why it wouldn't start.
The compression is now very good but it still won't go when it is hot.
Starting from cold is no poblem and it runs wonderfully.
Do you have any ideas. All suggestions would be appreciated.

Ben

Hi Nico,
All disk brake systems has no 'come back off' mechanism but disk plate will not drag along as you said.
Try to check following steps;
1. Stand the bike by main stand and make the gear neutral.
2. Check the rear whell will move freely.
3. If so, step on the brake pedal and check 2 phase again.

If your rear wheel will not move freely, I recommend re-assemble rear brake pad.

I just put new brake pads on my bike(rear), but now when i brake
they wont come back off again. Anyone had this too, or is this usual
with new brake-pads?

The brakes become very hot too, i don't think this is right.

Hello.

I知 interested in some addresses for shopping parts over the internet. Mostly new parts, but it sure would be fine with a place to look for used stuff as well. The things I知 looking for is basically standard things like camchain tensioner, filters, bearings, brake pads, sprockets and chain. At this time I知 also interested in a fairing from the F2 model and the left sidecover. I知 also wondering if there is a review over the different types of exhaust systems available for this model. The present one is the 4/1 type, but I think the bike looks better with the original 4/2 set-up. The original one is a bit pricey, so if there is another brand available this might be a better buy. In Norway where I live the prices generally is very high on motorcycle parts.

Thanks useful info, Axel
Yes, cam chain tensioner is the most typical trouble of CBX.
So many people changed.
Keep in touch, please.

Hi, Bert
I did not heard about the big-end bearing problem as typically trouble of CBX.
Please check the OIL quality and OIL filter. Some metal sludge makes bearing bad.
And if your engine makes some noise like titititi arround 3500rpm, please check
the cam chain tentioner. It is the weakness point of CBX engine.
So many people who read/write this Web page already replaced it.

I will send this message as email too.

The bearing of the big-end of my third cylinder went broke. (after 80.000 km)
Speaking to people, some mention they heard of that proplem too.
Is there a reason for it (construction failure) or is there another problem causing this which I should fix before I repair the big-end bearing.

Please reply to my email too. Bert.van.Es@compaq.com

Hi, Philippe
Yes I think there is no differences else;
1. Front fork, suspension and bridge plate. 550F has 2 disks.
2. Engine itself. But the mechanism is same, only size is different.

I appended info about manuals, please check the last paragraph of;

Thanks for your advice.

I just replaced the spark plug, and the old one had a nice
"sienna" brown color. I heard that should be the right color.

For oil leak on the floor of my garage, there is nothing to
see.

I'll follow your tip by simply, every 500 km, check the
oil level.

An other need for me will be a technical reference manual for
the CBX. In France I could found last winter a book about the
550 CBX (on a flee market ;)...)
Are the information refering to the 550 the same as for the
400?
I saw Pavel's pictures showing his 550, and it seems only to
be different on the fork and obviously on the motor...

Thank you for that nice web site.

Philippe

Thank you for your nice photos, Philippe.

In general, there are 2 case.
1. Oil is burnning in cylinder.
2. Oil is leaking from engine room.
Please check the spark plug and if plug is covered by carbon strongly, it is the sign of case 1.
In this case, Exhaust gas smell oily too. The piston ring may be broken or cylinder needs overhaul.
And check the floor of your garage and the bottom case of engine block and blow tube.
If you find the leak oil, it mean the case 2.

Anyway, there is no way to vanish the oil, else burn and leak.
My old 50cc bike has the same problem of you. Then I check the oil level sometime and refil it.
Because I don't want to pay repaire cost for so cheap old bike. ;-)

Did one of you get the same.

I'm looking for a servicing manual for the CBX.

Thank you

Hi, Philippe;
You are the most lucky guy in the world!
I will seek new friend who has brand new CBX. ;-)
In Japan, we will make a CBX owner's club on/off the Net.
Is there any owner's club on any other country? Does anyone know?

Semptember last year a friend of mine gave me a CBX400F that stand
11 years in his hangard. That bike had only 7000 kms.

After changing the exhaust pipes, cleaning the break fluid
cleaning the carburators (made by professionnal), new tires and a
new battery, it worked well.

Since september I rode more than 5000 kms without trouble. Incredible,
that this bike without any attention and after that all time without
a ride is still like new !!!

GREAT BIKE

Hi Brilis, (from Greek?)

According to my CBX mentenance manual, valve clearance
should be from 0.08mm to 0.12mm, both of IN/EX.
Check it in cool condition, exactly under 35' C temp.

You will need the short length minus screw driver. :-)

I recommend to check the cam chain tentioner. So many
people reports problem of this parts. Me too.

Have a nice run!

Yasu.

my 15 years old CBX 400 F2. I had stoped it and place
the garage 10 years ago.... Let us do our best. :-)
